Weaving between text and textile, giang nguyễn-nguyễn makes embroideries on canvas piecework in relation to Southeast Asian talismans, blueprints, comics, and graffiti. Micro-cyclical sewing techniques register the simultaneous accumulation and erosion of significance through repetition, forming a shorthand for the sentimentality and subversion of the artist’s subterrane. Influenced by Spiralism and Arte Precario, n-n draws from linguistic reduplication and historical camouflage to interpret memory through refraction, relativity, and pattern—framing familiarity and foreignness as a binocularity rather than binary.
